Skjern vs GOG: Champions League Dispute Heads to Appeals Board

The fight for Denmark’s additional spot in next season’s EHF Champions League has escalated, as Skjern Håndbold has lodged a formal appeal against the Danish Handball Federation (DanskHåndbold) over the decision to award the opportunity to GOG.
Skjern’s board member and legal representative, Hans Jeppesen, confirmed to TV 2 SPORT that the club has submitted the appeal to the Handball Appeals Board.
“I can confirm that we received a decision from DanskHåndbold yesterday. We have now submitted an appeal to the Handball Appeals Board,” said Jeppesen.
The controversy centers around which club is entitled to apply for Denmark’s additional Champions League place. After Aalborg Håndbold won both the regular season and the Danish Championship, DanskHåndbold determined that the second-placed team from the regular season – GOG – should be granted the application rights.
Skjern, however, believes the spot should go to them, having finished second to Aalborg in the playoff finals and thus earning Danish Championship silver.
The case now rests with the Danish Handball Appeals Board, which will make the final ruling on whether GOG or Skjern will be allowed to apply for Champions League participation.
