Thibaud Briet to SC Magdeburg

Elvar Örn Jonsson could be on his way out of SC Magdeburg after just one season, with Rhein-Neckar Löwen reported as his next destination.

The German champions, however, appear to have moved quickly in search of a replacement. According to reports from Sport Bild and handball-world, Magdeburg are close to signing French international Thibaud Briet from HBC Nantes.

Briet, who is under contract with Nantes until 2028, would represent a major addition to Bennet Wiegert’s squad. The 26-year-old left back was part of the French team that won silver at the 2023 World Championship and has established himself as one of Nantes’ key players in recent seasons.

At 2.05 metres, Briet would bring a very different profile to Magdeburg’s back court compared to Jonsson. His height, shooting power and physical presence could give SCM an additional attacking option as they look to reshape the squad for the future.
