Tragedy on the Way to Champions League Match: Young Industria Kielce Staff Member and His Father Die in Car Accident
Tragic news has shocked the Polish and European handball community. Twenty-year-old Szymon Zaczyński, a young graphic designer and member of Industria Kielce’s marketing and communications team, lost his life alongside his father in a car accident on October 7 while travelling to the EHF Champions League match against SC Magdeburg.
Szymon and his father were heading to Kielce to attend Wednesday evening’s Champions League encounter. It was supposed to be a special occasion for the young designer, who was looking forward to meeting the team’s players and club staff in person for the very first time.
Unfortunately, they never reached their destination.
Szymon had been working with Industria Kielce for just two months, creating graphic materials for the club. Graphic design was his passion, which he also pursued through collaborations with other sports organisations, including the Polish Handball Federation.
Despite his relatively short time with the club, he had already become a valued member of the team.
“Although he had been working with us for a relatively short period, Szymon had already become an important part of our team. He was a young, ambitious creator who passionately developed his love for graphic design and sport. His passing is even harder to accept because we have lost someone who had so many opportunities and plans ahead of him,” the club said in an official statement.
Industria Kielce expressed its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of both victims.
The Champions League match between Industria Kielce and SC Magdeburg went ahead on Wednesday evening, with the German champions claiming a 35:30 victory.
However, the tragic loss of a young member of the handball community and his father has cast a shadow over the European handball week.
