Transfer Bombshell: Darko Djukic joins HC Ohrid!

Another transfer surprise comes from HC Ohrid – and straight from the EHF Champions League!

Longtime Serbian national team member Darko Djukic is returning to North Macedonia for the third time, now coming from the Romanian champions and EHF Champions League contenders, Dinamo Bucharest.

The 30-year-old from Nis brings an impressive playing résumé, having scored 306 goals over eight seasons in the EHF Champions League while playing for clubs like Metalurg, Beşiktaş, Kielce, Meshkov Brest, Vardar, and Dinamo Bucharest.

Djukic first made his breakthrough with RK Metalurg in the 2014/2015 season, which was his first stop after leaving his hometown club Železničar from Niš. That was followed by a strong season with Beşiktaş, and then a move to the reigning European champions at the time – Kielce – where he stayed for two seasons, the same as with Meshkov Brest. During the pandemic year, he played for Sporting Lisbon, before joining Vardar in 2021, where he played until 2024 and won the league title in 2022.

Alongside a solid club career, Djukic also had success with the Serbian national team. After a few years’ absence, he returned to the squad and helped Serbia qualify for the upcoming 2026 European Championship in Scandinavia.

With this signing, the club – to be led next season by Boris Rojević – has confirmed its high ambitions in a year when the term “Big Four” is expected to come to life in North Macedonia, and the league to be more exciting and competitive than ever. Đukić is the latest addition to a lineup of signings including Tilen Strmljan, Ante Ivanković, Predrag Vejin, Nikolaos Liapis, and Stefan Petrić, all of whom suggest that Ohrid will be a serious contender in the race for trophies.

On the right wing position last season, Ohrid featured Slovenian international Gal Cirar and domestic player Naum Kostov.
