In the five games played today we saw two more teams qualify for the L16 phase. Metalurg had more trouble than expected at home against Chambery, however with the support of the crowd which was loud as always, managed to break Chambery’s resistance in the end and win with 26:21. Gorenje Velenje had another rather easy game against St Petersburg and with their physical superiority easily coped with the Russians and won by 7 goals, 32-25 victory in Chekhov.
In Group D, Barcelona scored another routine victory, and easily beat Kadetten with 36:25, while perhaps in the most interesting game Pick Szeged beat RK Zagreb at home with 26:24 and therefore took the 4th position at the moment after 7 games, and is on the pole-position for the 4th team to qualify ahead of the final 3 matches in the group.
Celje were hoping to prepare another miracle as against THW, but Veszprem proved too strong and had the support of around 2000 Hungarian fans in Celje, and strengthened their lead on the table ahead of the THW-Atletico clash. Veszprem are now with 14 points, while THW and Atletico have 8 and 6 respectively.
