Veselin Vujović Returns to Qatar Bench for World Championship 2027

Legendary Veselin Vujovic (65) is set to return to the biggest handball stage.

One of the most recognizable names in world handball will once again take charge of the Qatar national team, Balkan-Handball.com has learned.

Vujović has travelled to Doha, where he will take over the team he previously led from 2024 to 2025, including at the 2025 IHF World Championship in Croatia, where Qatar finished 21st.

The Spaniard Valero Rivera returned as Vujović’s replacement in the middle of last year, but it appears that Qatar’s second place at the Asian Championship — including a defeat to Bahrain in the final after six consecutive continental titles — did not satisfy the Qatari federation.

The agreement between Vujović and Qatar runs through the 2027 IHF World Championship, which will be held in Germany.

Vujović has also coached Iran, Slovenia, Serbia and Montenegro at World Championships.
