World Championship 2025 Shock: Miguel Martins Suspended Amid Doping Claims
The Portuguese player was suspended from the World Championship late Tuesday evening due to a positive doping test.
Aalborg Håndbold was informed Wednesday morning that Miguel Martins will not participate in the ongoing World Championship for Portugal after testing positive for doping in connection with the Portuguese national team’s activities leading up to the tournament.
“This comes as a great shock to us,” said Aalborg Håndbold’s director Jan Larsen. “We have immediately been in contact with Miguel, who is as bewildered as we are and insists that he has not done anything illegal.
“He has promptly requested the so-called B-sample to be analyzed to clarify the matter, but it is certain that he will not participate in the World Championship,” added Jan Larsen.
“We cannot and will not take further action in the case until the result of the B-sample is available. At this moment, we do not know when that will happen. Only when we know the result of the test will we address the next steps,” concluded Larsen.
