Dinamo Bucharest: Seven new players and high hopes for the upcoming season

The new 2014-2015 handball season looks very promising for Dinamo Bucharest. With no less than seven new players in the squad, the team has set a bold, but achievable goal for this new season: to be Romanian champions in 2015. Taking into considerations that it has been ten years since the last title in 2005, both the players and the team management are hoping and very eager to lift the champions trophy next summer and to add a new trophy in the showcase of the club.

To achieve this difficult goal, the new and energetic president Daniel Georgescu has brought, no less, than seven new players to the team: Gustav Rydergaard, who spent his last five seasons at TSV Hannover Burgdorf and has nicknamed by both his teammates and the Burgdorf fans “Abwehr Chef”, Ibrahima Diaw from PSG Handball, ex-captain of the French giant, Pierre-Yves Ragot, a very experience French center who played in France, Spain and spent his last season in the Austrian League, at Juri Union Leoben.

Also a young, but very promising Croatian right back, Jakov Vrankovic from Dijon Bourgogne Handball, a very powerful Serbian left back, Davor Taskovic who spent the last three seasons at the champion of Greece, AC Diomidis Argos, where he was top scorer and captain and last, but not least, two Romanian internationals: the goalkeeper Ionut Irimus and the left wing Alexandru Asoltanei, both with more than 25 games for Romania.

These “Magnificent Seven”, as they were called by the fans,  together with other experienced Dinamo players like Ciprian Sandru, Costel Manea, Dan Savenco and Razvan Rapciuga the management is convinced to have a powerful team. Together they decided it has finally came the time to challenge the authority of HCM Constanta, the team who won the Romanian title for the last six consecutive years. Dinamo Bucharest won the Champions League in 1965 and was twelve times Romanian Champion, last time in 2005.

The new season started with a solid victory in a training match against the old rival, Steaua Bucharest. It was a friendly pre-season match but the egos where high, as everybody had something to prove. It ended 33-27 for Dinamo with Ragot ending as top scorer of the game with five goals.
