Saturday, May 24 2014 will be remembered as one of the most interesting days in the history of the DKB Bundesliga. THW Kiel became the new-old German champion with only two goals better goal-difference ahead of Rhein Neckar Lowen. The “Lions” have been in the lead before the last match of the season with seven goals in front of “Zebras”, but they missed the chance to win the Championship for the first time in the last five minutes of the match in Gummersbach.
Rhein Neckar Lowen beat VfL Gummersbach 40:35 in the sold-out “Schwalbe Arena”, but that wasn’t enough to keep the first place, also as winning series which last 17 matches…
THW Kiel beat Fuchse Berlin 37:23 (17:8) and that was enough. Kiel finished on +236 two goals ahead of RNL on +234…
THW Kiel are the new champions. Rhein Neckar Lowen and SG Flensburg will play at the EHF Champions League, while new members of the 2. Bundesliga are HBW Balingen, ThSV Eisenach and Emsdetten.
