Rui Silva and Paulo Pereira Furious: “Germany Were in Our Half at the Restart”

The Portuguese believe a serious refereeing mistake occurred in the final minute of the clash with Germany, when—according to their claims—a German player was in their half of the court at the moment play was restarted, which led to a controversial goal. They view that detail as decisive for the final outcome.

The first to speak out was Rui Silva:

“The problem is that before the referee’s whistle, no German player is allowed to enter our half of the court. And there were two. Julian Schluroff was on the nine-metre line. Maybe I don’t understand the rules,” Silva said.

Head coach Paulo Pereira shared the same view, insisting the referee had to stop the action:

“At the moment the referee blew the whistle, at least one player was on the other side of the court. That was a mistake. The referee had to stop the play and restart it. This way, an irregular goal was scored,” Pereira said.
