Mike Jensen and Rhein Neckar Lowen together until 2028

Rhein-Neckar Löwen continue to rely on stability in goal – Mike Jensen extends until 2028.
The Rhein-Neckar Löwen are sticking with reliability and experience between the posts: Mike Jensen has extended his contract by two more years and will remain with the Bundesliga club until 2028. This means the goalkeeping partnership with David Späth will stay unchanged for the next two seasons.
The Danish goalkeeper not only brings international know-how from Europe’s top leagues, but also shapes the team through his personality. Jensen plays a key role in daily training, gives his young partner confidence, challenges him consistently, and provides calm, steady leadership on and off the court.
“Team-first mentality at the highest level”
“Mike lives the team-first mentality at the highest level,” head coach Maik Machulla said. “He’s experienced almost everything in his career and has made a conscious decision that is far from a given. We’re very happy he has chosen to continue on our path together. The fact that he accepts this responsibility and fully puts himself at the service of the team makes him extremely valuable for us.”
“Mike is someone who makes others better”
Sporting director Uwe Gensheimer also underlined the importance of the extension: “Mike brings enormous quality and experience. At the same time, he’s someone who makes others better. We’re delighted that we were able to convince him to stay another year with the Rhein-Neckar Löwen—especially because this decision was anything but easy for him.”
Broad international experience
Mike Jensen arrives in Mannheim with an exceptional wealth of experience from Europe’s elite handball scene. After starting out in Denmark, the 2.07-meter goalkeeper gained early Bundesliga experience with HBW Balingen-Weilstetten. He then moved on to stints with SC Magdeburg and Benfica Lisbon before taking the next step into top-level international handball. Most recently, Jensen was under contract with Hungarian powerhouse One Veszprém, where he won domestic titles and featured regularly in the EHF Champions League.
“I feel extremely comfortable here”
“I’ve experienced a lot in my career and played at the highest level. That’s why I made the decision to extend with the Rhein-Neckar Löwen very consciously,” Jensen said. “I feel extremely comfortable here and see a sporting perspective that fits me. Together with David, we want to push each other and give the team maximum stability. I’m looking forward to continuing on this path and doing my part for the team’s success.”
With Jensen’s extension, the Rhein-Neckar Löwen secure a well-balanced goalkeeping duo and make a clear statement for continuity in a key position.
