Barça have suffered a major setback with the injury of captain Dika Mem, who is expected to be sidelined for several weeks.
Barça beat Irún 37–31 on Saturday in the Copa de España semi-final, but Mem picked up a hamstring problem. The Barcelona right back came on for a few minutes in the first half, scored once, and then had to leave the court. He did not return after the break.
“Dika Mem is suffering from a myofascial lesion in the hamstrings of his right leg. His recovery time is estimated at between four and six weeks,” the club said in a statement issued on Saturday evening.
With an estimated absence of four to six weeks, Mem will miss Barça’s final four group-stage matches in the EHF Champions League, including the key clash for first place against reigning champions Magdeburg on March 5. Barcelona remain on course to qualify directly for the quarter-finals, holding a six-point lead over Wisła Płock.
