Jonas Wille is no longer Norwegian NT coach

The Norwegian Handball Federation’s Executive Board has decided not to extend Jonas Wille’s contract as head coach of the men’s national team.
Jonas Wille was appointed head coach of the Norwegian men’s national team in the summer of 2022. During his tenure, the team recorded two sixth-place finishes in major international tournaments (2023 World Championship and 2024 Olympic Games), two ninth-place finishes (2024 European Championship and 2026 European Championship), and one tenth-place finish (2025 World Championship).
His contract expires on 1 July 2026.
“Jonas Wille has been an important part of the Norwegian Handball Federation for many years, including the period before he took over as head coach of the men’s national team. We are grateful for his focus on development, his commitment, and his tireless efforts through five championships with Norway. We are determined to continue building on the strong development work he has represented for many years,” said handball president Randi Gustad.
“Under Jonas’ leadership, the men’s national team has taken important steps forward, even if that is not reflected in the results from the most recent championships. When the board has nevertheless decided not to extend his contract, it ultimately comes down to our belief that there are other candidates who may strengthen the team’s chances of finding those final margins in the years ahead. That is why the Executive Board wants to appoint a new head coach from next season,” Gustad added.
“I would like to thank the players and my staff for many great moments, and for their dedication and loyalty over several years. Now that our paths will soon part, I want to take this opportunity to wish both the team and the Norwegian Handball Federation the very best after my contract period comes to an end,” said Jonas Wille.
The Norwegian Handball Federation will now begin the process of finding the next head coach for the men’s national team. The overall hiring process will be anchored in the Executive Board, while the actual recruitment work will be led by secretary general Erik Langerud.
