Aalborg Håndbold extend with Niklas Landin

The goalkeeper will remain with the reigning Danish champions and cup winners until the summer of 2029.

In 2023, now 37-year-old Niklas Landin joined Aalborg Håndbold from German side THW Kiel. Since then, he has played 121 official matches in the red shirt, winning two Danish championships, two cup titles, and reaching the Champions League final in 2024.

Landin’s original contract ran until the summer of 2027, and that deal has now been extended by a further two seasons—something that brings great joy to Aalborg Håndbold’s director, Jan Larsen.

  • There is no doubt that Niklas is still a player of absolute world-class level, which we saw as recently as this weekend at the Final4 event in Herning, where he played a big part in the wins over GOG and TMS Ringsted. We know that when it comes to the biggest matches, Niklas is at his best and is often decisive.

  • His role in the club has only grown over time, and every day we experience a highly seasoned player who leads the way and takes responsibility both on and off the court—just as he naturally forms part of our captain’s group within the team.

  • That’s why we are incredibly happy that we have agreed to extend our deal by a further two seasons, so that Niklas will continue to be an important part of the foundation for maintaining our position as Denmark’s leading club. We have no doubt that he can contribute significantly toward achieving our biggest goal of winning the EHF Champions League, says Jan Larsen.

Landin himself is also very pleased to continue his career at Aalborg Håndbold.

  • From the start I have settled in really well, both in the club and in the city, where my family and I are thriving. At the same time, it’s fantastic to be part of a very ambitious Danish club where the conditions for us players are absolutely top-class. That aligns perfectly with my own ambitions, and I therefore also hope that I can finish my active career in Aalborg, says Niklas Landin, who has great faith that the sporting success on the court can continue with his teammates.

  • With the squad we have this season and in the coming seasons, I fully believe we can maintain our place as the leading team in Denmark and hopefully become a regular presence at the Champions League Final4 event in Cologne in the coming years, Landin continues.

Niklas Landin’s achievements so far include, among others:

  • Two Danish championships and two Danish cup titles with Aalborg Håndbold, as well as a Danish championship with GOG.

  • Two awards as the world’s best handball player (2019 and 2021).

  • 2 Olympic, 3 World Championship, and 1 European Championship gold medals with the Danish national team, as well as 283 official international matches.

  • Champions League winner, three-time German champion, and three-time German cup winner with THW Kiel.

  • Three awards as Denmark’s best male handball player of the year.

Aalborg Håndbold are currently in first place in the Danish Bambuni Herreliga and, with six rounds remaining, have already secured first place in the regular season. This past weekend they won the Danish cup title for the second year in a row, while in the Machineseeker EHF Champions League they sit second in their group after 11 matches.
