We great sadness we report that Alexander Toncourt, Assistant Secretary General of the European Handball Federation passed away in his home city, Vienna. Known among his colleagues as “Ali”, he worked previously as Secretary General of the Austrian Handball Federation, and since 1994 for the EHF as Assistant Secretary General. He also served as member of the International Handball Federation’s Commission of Organising and Competitions (COC) from 2000 to 2008 and as a technical delegate at World Championships.
EHF President Tor Lian with great sadness commented on his death – “I was deeply saddened to hear the news of Ali’s passing away. Ali was a true professional, a trusted leader in the handball world and also a good friend. He will be greatly missed”, as well as Michael Wiederer (EHF Secretary General) “The news of Ali’s death has come as a great shock despite his battle with illness. He has been a trusted colleague and close friend for many years and his passing away is a huge personal loss.”
