It is time for Carnival on the coast of the Oman. Brazil grabbed both titles in the V Beach Handball World Championships. Four years ago was the last time that one country grabbed both titles in the Championship, which came to an end on 13 July 2012 in Al Mussanah Sports City, Oman. Brazil defended his title in the men’s final and beat underdog Ukraine with 2:1.
The final match day ended with a thrilling men’s final match in front of a full stadium. The boys from the Ukraine won the first half after the golden goal with 19:18. But in the second halftime the favorites found to their shape and won with 18:15. So the thrilling shootouts had to decide this tournament. The Brazilian goalkeeper advanced to the hero of his team: Jaime Torres saved three shoots from the Ukrainian. This was the decision.
In the women’s final, which had taken place just previously to the men’s final, the Brazilian team took an easy victory against Denmark. The Scandinavians played without any chances and a difficult tactic plan, which did not work. So the most valuable player of the tournament, Patricia Scheppa from Brazil, scored goal by goal. Brazil won 2:0: The greatest triumph on beach for the Pan-Americans since the World Championships 2006 in Rio de Janeiro.
All teams were celebrating throughout the whole closing ceremony and were presented with their trophies by H.E. Sheikh Saad bin Mohammed Al Saadi, the Minister of Sports Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman and IHF President Dr Hassan Moustafa, who thanked the local organizers for their great efforts that made this fantastic event possible.
Earlier on the final day, Croatia beat Russia in the men’s consolation final with 2:0 and the dethroned World Champion Norway defeated Hungary in the women’s match for the third place with 2:0.
