Saint Raphael is the host of the VELUX EHF CL “Wild Card” tournament

The European Handball Federation has announced that the VELUX EHF Champions League Wildcard Tournament will be played in Saint-Raphael, France on 8 and 9 September 2012.

Participating teams are:

Bjerringbro-Silkeborg, DEN (ranked second in the Danish league)
Saint-Raphael Var Handball, FRA (ranked third in the French league)
HSV Hamburg, GER (ranked fourth in the German league)
Orlen Wisla Plock, POL (ranked second in the Polish league)

The playing schedule will see the following two semi-final matches on Saturday, 8 September 2012, based on rankings:

HSV Hamburg (GER) versus Orlen Wisla Plock (POL)
St. Raphael Var Handball (FRA) versus Bjerringbro-Silkeborg (DEN)

The event will be played in the Palais des Sport JF Krakowski, Saint-Raphael.

The winner of the final on Sunday, 9 September 2012 will receive a direct place in the Group A of the Group Phase of the VELUX EHF Champions League.

They will join teams from Montpellier Agglomération Handball (FRA), Chekhovskie Medvedi (RUS), SG Flensburg-Handewitt (GER), Reale Ademar Leon (ESP) and the winner of the Qualification Tournament 1.

The fourth placed team in the Wildcard tournament will qualify for the EHF Cup second round of qualification, the second and third placed teams will qualify for the third round of the new competition.
