Michael Roth and MT Melsungen have all reasons to celebrate all week. The biggest surprise this Sunday occured definitely in Kiel. The ‘recordmeister’ is finally defeated after not having lost in the Bundesliga since May 2011. A Melsungen victory which no one really expected. The beginning of the game showed that it might be another routine victory for THW Kiel. The “Zebras” played a better first half and in the 20th minute had 12:10, and also went at half time break with two goals lead, 16:14. However the second half started very bad, in the initial 15 minutes THW Kiel scored only 2 goals, while they conceded 7, and in the 45th minute the result stood at 21:18 for Melsungen. Melsungen kept resisting every THW Kiel attempt to equalize, and in the 52nd minute a three-goal lead was well-deserved, 25-22 for MT Melsungen. Final push for THW Kiel got them to 24:25 and 25:26, but that was it, in the remaining couple of attacks they failed to score against brilliant Melsungen goalkeeper, and Melsungen were successful in their attack and in the end win deservedly 29:25.
Melsungen were led by superb Allendorf who had 7 and Danner with 6 goals. THW’s best was, as usual, Filip Jicha, this time with 6 goals.
In the other game today Flensburg-Handewitt with some luck won 30:29 in Minden against GWD Minden. After today’s completion of the 15th round, Rhein-Neckar Lowen remain leader on the table after beating Essen on Friday with 34:24.
