Egyptian Zamalek and Angolan Primerio de Agosto win African Champions League!

The 2019 edition of the CAHB African Championship of Champion Clubs – also known as the African Champions League finished last night with the two pre-tournament favourites, and title-holders, taking the men’s and women’s gold medals respectively in Chã de Areia, Praia, Cape Verde.

Eight of the very best African women’s teams and 10 men’s teams were aiming to win the prestigious continental title which ran from 4-13 October and featured 61 games in total.

Egypt’s Zamalek defended their men’s title won and Angolan women’s team Primeiro de Agosto retained their crown too in the 41st edition of the event.

Both finals featured clashes between teams from the same countries with Primeiro overcoming their Angolan rivals Petro de Atletico 18:16 (6:8) in a defensive women’s final, while Zamalek came-from-behind with three goals in the final minute to beat fellow Egyptian side Sporting Club, 33:31 (14:17).

The bronze medal matches saw Angola grab another medal, with Inter Club defeating DR Congo’s JSK 24:21 (13:11) in the men’s competition, while ABO Sport from Congo, defeated their country rivals DGSP 29:28 (13:15), after turning around a half-time deficit.
