Egyptian handball powerhouse Zamalek were crowned African champions for the tenth time on Sunday after defeating Tunisian side Esperance de Tunis 31-29 in the final after extra-time in Tunis.
The White Knights produced a spirited and impressive display, with lively duo Ahmed El-Ahmar and young winger Yehya Khaled sparkling to down Esperance in an exciting affair.
The Normal time ended in a 25-25 draw before Zamalek prevailed in extra time, winning 31-29.
Zamalek are now one title short of Algerian side CS Petroliers’ record of 11 Champions League trophies. Zamalek’s Cairo rivals Ahly won the competition last year.
