Justus Fischer to join THW Kiel in summer 2027

THW Kiel have continued shaping the long-term vision for their future squad: Germany international Justus Fischer will join the Zebras from TSV Hannover-Burgdorf in the summer of 2027. The 23-year-old line player, who won Olympic and EHF EURO silver with the German national team, has signed an initial two-year contract with the record champions.

Fischer: “I want to be part of a young team starting a new era”

“Early in my career, I was incredibly impressed that Filip Jicha and Viktor Szilagyi already believed in me back then and openly expressed their interest,” Justus Fischer said, looking back on the past few years. “But I wasn’t ready for that step yet.”

Now, however, Fischer believes the time has come.

“I want to leave my comfort zone in order to take a personal step forward. Kiel’s concept is strong, and I can clearly see my place in it. In Kiel, I have the opportunity to be part of a young team building a new, successful era for such a great club. I’m also looking forward to playing at club level from 2027 with my national teammates like Julian, Andi, Rune and ‘Zebu’.”

“Justus is rightly one of the most sought-after Germany internationals”

THW Kiel managing director Viktor Szilagyi welcomed the decision of the national team player:

“Justus became a topic between Filip, Sprengi and me at a very early stage. Together, we worked intensively and for a long time to bring him to Kiel.”

Szilagyi said he was pleased that Fischer had now been convinced by the opportunities at THW Kiel and the club’s long-term vision on the Baltic coast.

“Justus will play an important role in that vision. He has the complete package. Defensively and offensively, he is a player for the future, but he has already proven his quality under great pressure. That is why he is rightly one of the most sought-after German internationals. The fact that he will become a Zebra in 2027 is fantastic news for everyone connected to THW Kiel.”

About Justus Fischer

Born on February 6, 2003 in Hanover, Justus Fischer took his first handball steps at Hannoverscher SC. Via SV Anderten, he moved directly into the C-youth team of TSV Hannover-Burgdorf, whose jersey he has worn since 2017.

In 2020, the line player made his professional debut in the DHB Cup, followed by his first appearance in the Bundesliga a year later. In 2022, the 1.94m Fischer signed his first professional contract with “Die Recken”, for whom he has scored 439 goals in 145 league matches so far.

Alongside his club career, Fischer’s rise with the national team has also been rapid. He won the U19 European Championship with Germany in Croatia in 2021, then claimed the U21 World Championship title in 2023 and was named to the All-Star Team.

The right-hander made his senior national team debut in April 2023. Since then, he has earned 42 caps and scored 56 goals. With Germany, Justus Fischer won silver at the 2024 Olympic Games and at the 2026 European Championship. He was also awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf, Germany’s highest state honour for outstanding sporting achievement.
