Kiko Costa, Martim Costa, and Salvador Salvador Extend Contracts Until 2030

Sporting Clube de Portugal has renewed the contracts of Kiko Costa, Martim Costa, and Salvador Salvador—three key players from the handball team that recently claimed back-to-back national championships.

All three are backcourt players and Portuguese internationals, and will now remain with the Lions until 2030. Together with teammates who have also extended their contracts, they will form the core of a squad that continues to dominate domestically and impress on the European stage.

Salvador Salvador, the team captain, joined Sporting CP at the age of 13. Now 23, he’s become one of the club’s standout figures—a role that even he finds hard to grasp:
“Honestly, I never expected all this when I first set foot in the Multidesportivo. If someone had told me the story would turn out like this, I wouldn’t have believed them. Things unfolded in the best possible way, and this is a big step forward. Renewing with Sporting CP was an easy decision, and I’m extremely happy,” he told the club’s media.

Having come to know “almost everyone” who works daily at Alvalade, Salvador expressed a deep personal connection to the club:
“Sporting CP is part of me, and I feel like I’m part of Sporting CP. It was an easy decision for my own well-being and that of my family, and also because I want to become a symbol of the club I’ve always loved and supported.”

He praised head coach Ricardo Costa, calling him “hungry for success” and someone who “thinks about handball every single day,” and stressed the players’ full commitment to him:
“He never seems satisfied. We follow Ricardo blindly and fully believe in his ideas, both in terms of gameplay and his relentless drive for more.”

Looking ahead, Salvador added:
“I truly believe there are many more titles to come, and that Sporting CP will keep growing. I have many personal goals, and I want to achieve them with this club. I’ll keep working with full loyalty to my principles and to what Sporting CP has given me.”

Martim Costa, 22, has been with Sporting CP since 2021 and described his journey so far as something he’s “super proud of”:
“Signing with Sporting CP was the best decision of my life, and I hope to keep working hard to bring joy to our fans.”

He emphasized the importance of team unity:
“The great atmosphere within the squad really translates into our results. Over the years, players have come and gone, and those of us who’ve been here longer have a duty to welcome newcomers and build that atmosphere. More than just a team, we’re a family—and you can see that on the court. That’s something we want to maintain.”

Martim also set his sights on Europe’s top competition:
“My goal is to reach a very high level in European handball. The EHF Champions League is the top competition in Europe. Our aim is to reach the Final Four—and then win it, step by step.”

Kiko Costa, 20 and Martim’s younger brother, also joined Sporting CP in 2021. For him, the renewal brings “a sense of achievement and pride”:
“These four years have been a dream and an adventure—we’ve won a lot. Now I’ll fight for the one title that’s still missing: the EHF Champions League.”

He added:
“People enjoy watching us play, both for the national team and for Sporting CP. We see fans smiling, jumping, and celebrating. And even when we lose, they’re still there singing for us. That kind of support is a big motivation to keep fighting and winning.”

Kiko concluded:
“The hardest part is to keep winning. We’ve won everything in Portugal, and that’s great—but we want to win again, because that’s what makes a true champion. My biggest wish? That I’ll always be remembered at this great club, to which I’ve given so much and will continue to give.”

Carlos Carneiro, Sporting CP’s handball coordinator, also shared his thoughts:
“I’m incredibly proud. These are players who rank among the world’s best and have always shown a strong desire to be part of Sporting CP. They appreciate what the club has done for them and feel at home here. We want our players to feel good at Sporting CP, to absorb the club’s DNA, and to form a bond with the fans. This is a very happy moment for Sporting CP handball.”
