Krickau sacked! Vranjes and Eggert lead SG Flensburg Handewitt

The handball Bundesliga team from Flensburg has released head coach Nicolej Krickau after the 29:31 defeat at the Rhein-Neckar Löwen.

The extensive analysis of the away defeat in Mannheim and the previous games in the DAIKIN HBL led those responsible at SG Flensburg-Handewitt to the decision to relieve head coach Nicolej Krickau of his duties with immediate effect.

“We discussed our situation in detail in the committee and weighed up the pros and cons. It was definitely not an easy decision, and we ultimately made it with a heavy heart,” says SG Managing Director Holger Glandorf.

“First of all, we would like to thank Nicolej for his work, his commitment and his enthusiasm for SG Flensburg-Handewitt over the last 1.5 years.”

Under Krickau’s leadership, Flensburg won the EHF European League last season and took third place in both the Handball Bundesliga and the DHB Cup.

“In our current sporting situation, however, we do not see the desired further development in the team. Our performance in the matches against the top clubs in the league is not enough to achieve our goals this season,” said Glandorf.

Ljubomir Vranjes, Flensburg’s sporting director, added: “We still have four important and groundbreaking games ahead of us before the end of the year, which we must make as successful as possible. The team must now ensure with a lot of emotion and passion that we get our SG back on track. They will have all of our support in this.”

Together with assistant coach Anders Eggert, Ljubomir Vranjes will initially look after the team. “This is an interim solution,” clarified Vranjes, who is not aiming for a dual role at the SG. “We want to find a successor for Nicolej as quickly as possible.”
