Maik Machulla to Continue in Dual Role at Rhein-Neckar Löwen

Maik Machulla will continue, for the time being, to combine his role as head coach of Rhein-Neckar Löwen with the duties of sporting director.
“We are still analysing the situation and holding talks, so we have decided not to seek another short-term solution,” managing director Holger Bachert explained.
Machulla took over the position on an interim basis following Uwe Gensheimer’s departure in April. The club is now considering whether the dual role could become a long-term solution.
After finishing eighth last season, Rhein-Neckar Löwen are not setting European qualification as an immediate target. Machulla described his team as a “challenger” to the clubs that finished ahead of them.
The Löwen will begin the 2026/27 Bundesliga season away to TSV Hannover-Burgdorf on August 30, before hosting VfL Gummersbach on September 2.
