Men’s 20 EHF EURO 2014 in Austria – 40 days to go…

On 24 July 2014, the Men´s 20 EHF EURO will throw off in the Austrian cities of Linz and Traun. On April 24, the groups for the preliminary round were drawn. Now the EHF confirmed the official match schedule. Group A and B will play at the HAKA-Arena in Traun, group C and D at the TIPS-Arena in Linz.

The Men´s 20 EHF EURO 2014 will be played in the format of a tournament with 16 teams consisting of a preliminary round, main round, placement matches, semi-finals and finals.

The preliminary round will be played in four groups consisting of four teams each, in which all teams compete against each other. The teams ranked 1 and 2 from each group after the preliminary round qualify for the main round. These teams keep their points from the matches against opponents who also go through to the main round.

The main round will be played in two groups with four teams in each group. The winners and second ranked teams from group A and B play against each other in the main round in Traun. The winners and second ranked teams from group C and D will stay in Linz for the main round. The first and second ranked teams in the main round play semi-finals. The first ranked team from one group plays against the second ranked team from the other group and vice versa.

The semi-finals and the final will be played in Linz. The placement matches will be played in Linz and Traun.

TRAUN: Group A: Spain, France, FYR Macedonia, Norway
TRAUN: Group B: Denmark, Switzerland, Serbia, Estonia
LINZ: Group C: Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Belarus
LINZ: Group D: Sweden, Slovenia, Israel, Hungary

25.000 spectators are expected in Linz and Traun
The Men’s 20 EHF EURO marks the fifth time Austria hosts a major European handball tournament, having previously hosted the Women’s 17 EHF EURO 2005, the Men’s 20 EHF EURO 2006, the Men’s EHF EURO 2010 and the Men’s 18 EHF EURO 2012.

For the duration of the upcoming event the Austrian Handball Federation expects 25,000 spectators showing up in Linz and Traun.
