Men’s Italian Elite League with 32 teams in three groups

The Italian handball federation decided recently to change the set up of the top national Men’s’ League ( Elite league). The league was turned into a championship where teams will play in three different groups: A,B and C. According to the Italian federation this change was brought in to keep teams’budgets in check and save money.Italian handball has found itself in a deep economical and managerial crisis for years.The former regardless of the overall economic country recession.

Such a league ( A Division ) will start on 22nd September with a regular phase wich will end on 30th March 2013.

A total of 32 teams will be playing in the league which after a regular season will be shifting to a playoffs phase.

The top teams of group A,B and the top two of group C will be battling it out for the Italian title.

Loacker Bozen, Conversano, Triest and Fasano are likely to be the main protagonists of the upcoming season.

    The italian league’s name is no more “Elite”, but “Serie A – I Divisione Nazionale”
