Mikkel Hansen to retire after Paris 2024!

One of the greatest player of the Century, Mikkel Hansen is going to retire next summer!
The 36-years Hansen, who came back to Denmark in jersey of Aalborg in summer 2022 after 10 years in PSG Handball, will end his amazing journey with the Olympic Games in Paris 2024.
– After almost 20 years, when I have been so privileged to have the world’s best hobby as my job, I am now ready to draw a line in the sand and say thank you for this time. – I have always loved playing with the ball and coming to training and matches, but after much consideration I have come to the point in my life where my family and new exciting adventures must have first priority. – I am grateful for all the fantastic people I have met and experiences I have had through handball. In particular, a huge thank you must go to my family, who have always supported me, as well as to the clubs I have represented, says Mikkel Hansen.
Director Jan Larsen from Aalborg Handball regrets Mikkel Hansen’s decision, but also fully understands the choice.
– On behalf of Aalborg Handball, we are of course sorry for Mikkel’s choice, but at the same time fully understand and respect the decision. Although it will only be two seasons at the club, with his presence Mikkel has managed to move the club to a completely new level, both on and off the pitch. – He is unquestionably the best Danish handball player ever and the interest we have experienced since his arrival at the club has been enormous, just as it has also created increased interest in the Danish Men’s League in general, says Jan Larsen.
