Nikolas Katsigiannis is new “Lowe”

Rhein-Neckar Löwen have reacted to the long-term failure of Mikael Appelgren and signed another goalkeeper, Nikolas Katsigiannis. The 38-year-old was still under contract with league rivals HC Erlangen last season and wore the THW Kiel jersey from 2015 to 2016. The 1.95 meter tall goalkeeper signed a contract with the Löwen until the end of the season and will make his debut in the SAP Arena next Thursday in the home game against SC DHfK Leipzig.

“A long and exhausting season lies ahead of us with many imponderables. Due to Mikael Appelgren’s long and uncertain downtime, we had to react again to the important goalkeeping position. With Nikolas we have been able to win an experienced goalkeeper for the Rhein-Neckar Löwen, who, together with Andreas Palicka, will form our duo between the posts in the coming months, “said Löwen managing director Jennifer Kettemann, pleased about the commitment of the five-time national player for the DHB selection.

“The request from the Rhein-Neckar Löwen is a great honor for me. The Löwen have been one of the top clubs in the Bundesliga for years and I would like to help achieve the ambitious goals in this difficult time. I am fit and sure that I can help the team immediately with my experience, ”said Katsigiannis, son of a Greek father and a German mother. “Cat” knows the Bundesliga like no other goalkeeper. For us, his commitment in the current phase is an absolute stroke of luck. He will be a very important partner for Andreas Palicka in the many games to come ”, said Oliver Roggisch, Sport Director of the Löwen.
