PARIS 2024: Superb Vargas for first Spanish win!
Team of Spain has opened Men’s Olympic tournament with a victory over Slovenia 25:22 (8:11). The two-times EHF EURO champions coached by Jordi Ribera had difficulties against Balkan team who totally controlled the Spanish position attack in the first half with good Klemen Ferlin between the posts in the first half.
However, in the second, TOP class of Gonzalo Perez de Vargas prevailed. The Spanish goalkeeper was a key person to take his team back from 11:14 (38.) to the lead 16:15 (44.).
Vargas ended match with 15 saves, five more than Slovenian goalkeeper’s duo Ferlin-Lesjak. Aleix Gomez scored seven goals for the winning squad, while the most efficient in Slovenian jersey was Dean Bombac with all five goals from 7-meter throws.
