Per Johansson is the news Gyori Audi ETO KC coach! The experienced Swedish coach will try to get back famous club on the winning track after lost Hungarian Cup Final against FTC which paid Danish coach Ulrik Kirkely by losing job.
“It’s never easy to change coaches during the season, not even for the club or the new coach. I have been in a similar situation during my coaching career, I believe that this routine will help me now. I know the team well, it has one of the strongest squads in the world in Győr, it will be an experience to work with these players. I had a honest, straightforward discussion with the management of the club and we agreed that we are only thinking about working together this season. We want to make it to the final four in the Champions League. Győr is the strongman of women’s handball, it is an honour to work here at any time. I’m waiting for the ladies to work with the girls. I would like to thank the management of ETO for their trust, I will try to repay you and achieve the goals of the club together” – quotes Per Johansson from Győr, whose work is assisted by coach Zoltán Holanek and goalkeeper coach Éva Kiss.
The 55-year-old Johansson led Sweden’s national team from 2008 to 2012 (silver medal in 2010), was captain of Montenegro from 2017 to 2020, and has been leading the Dutch women’s national team since 2022, finishing fifth at last year’s World Cup. As a club coach, he was at the head of CSM Bucuresti and Rostov-Don in Russia.
“We had to make a quick decision and choose the best after the cup final – commented Péter Endrődi, Győri ETO Kft. his manager. – My colleagues and I took into account the candidates, and then we defined a narrower circle of professionals who were available and they could be able to lead the team. We consulted with more, and Per Johansson proved to be the most suitable, who not only already has a routine in this situation, but also incredibly motivated. We believe the team needs it to reach our goal in the Champions League at the beginning of the season, namely the final four. Our agreement is until the end of the season.
