Never before had any team scored 42 goals against the Catalan giants — not at the Club World Championship, and not in the EHF Champions League either.

The previous record in Europe’s elite competition was 41 goals. THW Kiel beat Barça 41:31 in 2008, while Veszprém themselves won at Palau Blaugrana 41:34 in October 2023. At the time, EHF noted that it was only the second time in history that Barça had conceded 41 goals in a 60-minute Champions League match.

Now Veszprém have gone one step further.

In the Club World Championship final, the Hungarian champions scored 42 goals in 60 minutes and defeated Barça by nine — 42:33.

Kiel 41. Veszprém 41. And now — Veszprém 42.

A mark nobody had ever reached against Barça before.
