Riccardo Trillini about Italian success: The whole handball community can be proud

With two starting wins, Italy are at Main Round of the World Handball Championship 2025. Riccardo Trillini, head coach of the Italian national handball team, expressed his satisfaction following the team’s latest victory against Algeria at the 2025 World Championship.

“The confidence we’ve built over the past year, victory after victory, has undoubtedly strengthened the players. They know they always have a weapon to rely on during the game, even in difficult moments. Now, there’s an added maturity that emerges in how we manage the match, without lapses in concentration or fear of winning. I also want to emphasize that this sense of security comes from the way we play. The players know exactly what I want from them and vice versa, so any adjustment, innovation, or change we decide to implement fits perfectly within their capabilities. It’s truly an ideal situation.

I might be repetitive, but the most important thing is that the entire handball community in Italy can feel proud of itself and of the national team. Over the years, particularly with Beppe Tedesco and myself, we’ve worked hard to instill a mentality that disproves the idea that high-level handball can’t be achieved in Italy. We’ve tried to evolve the mindset of our young players, and today, with those same young players now part of the senior national team, I believe that way of thinking has stayed with them. We are proving that Italy is not second-tier. While we know there is still a lot of room for growth as a movement, these results should inspire everyone to think big.”

Trillini’s words reflect the growing ambition and confidence within the Italian handball community, as well as the pride in the progress the team has made on the international stage.
