Sabate to leave Czech Republic bench: “Focus on Wisla Plock”

Spanish coach Xavi Sabate will leave bench of Czech Republic national team right after IHF World Championship 2025.
Spaniard overtook position of the head-coach in February 2022 with solid performance at Men’s EHF EURO 2024 when they ended 15th and VISA for World Championship after 10 years of failing to qualify (last appearance in Qatar 2015 – 17th place).
From February, Sabate will focus only on his project in Wisla Plock, where they ended long-term domination of Kielce in Polish handball.
The new coaching staff is already known. Daniel Kubes and Michal Bruna, coaches who already worked with the team in staff with Jan Filip.
“I would like to thank Xavier and (assistant) Josep (Espar Moya) for their work and professional approach. They have significantly advanced the national team,” said Czech handball union president Ondřej Zdráhala.
“After the qualifying match with Romania, Ondřej Zdráhala and I agreed to extend the contract until the end of the championship, it was the best version for both parties. The federation is working on a long-term strategy and I will focus 100% on the club project with Wisla Plock,” said Sabaté.
