Sander Sagosen Returns to Aalborg on a Four-and-a-Half-Year Deal

Thus, 29-year-old Sagosen is returning to the club he previously represented from 2014-2017, with whom he won Aalborg Handball’s third Danish championship in 2017.

– “Eleven years ago, we brought in an 18-year-old Sander Sagosen to Aalborg, where in the following three years, he captivated and thrilled our many fans and sponsors with his play and abilities. Since then, we’ve always maintained a good and close relationship with Sander, so we are naturally happy and proud that he has chosen to come back to the club when the opportunity arose.

– Compared to back then, we are getting a much more experienced player, but I have no doubt that he still has the same ambition and determination, as he has shown both at PSG, THW Kiel, Kolstad, and the Norwegian national team as a world-class player.

– 73 goals and 75 assists in the last season in the Champions League also show the level Sander is on, so he will be another important reinforcement for the team in our efforts to achieve our goal of an overall victory in the Champions League, which remains our biggest goal in the club,” says Aalborg Handball’s director, Jan Larsen.

For Sander Sagosen, it is a comeback to a club that has been close to his heart for many years.

– “I’ve never hidden the fact that some of the very best years of my handball career were those I spent in Aalborg. I have many great memories from here, and that’s why I’m also happy to get the opportunity to return to the club, which has grown significantly since I was last here – both financially and in terms of ambitions.

– Therefore, I really hope that I can contribute to the club achieving the goal of not only winning the Danish championship but also winning the Champions League, which they came very close to last year. Now, I’m looking forward to meeting my new teammates, pulling on the red shirt, and especially to meeting the thousands of fantastic Aalborg fans again,” says Sander Sagosen.

Since he previously played for Kolstad Handball in the group stage of the Machineseeker EHF Champions League this season, it is not possible for Sagosen to represent Aalborg Handball in the remaining three group stage matches of the tournament.

However, the Norwegian will be eligible to participate in the subsequent knockout rounds of the tournament, and he is immediately eligible to play in matches in both the Danish Men’s League and the upcoming Santander Final4 event in Jyske Bank Boxen. His participation in the latter, however, is uncertain due to Sagosen’s injury at the World Cup in January.

Sander Sagosen was inducted into Aalborg Handball’s Hall of Fame in 2017 and has so far represented the club in 124 matches, scoring 592 goals. He will once again wear shirt number five for Aalborg Handball.
