RK Vardar Skopje won the first place at the regular part of the season in SEHA GAZPROM League by beating RK Gorenje 31:28 (13:13) after great battle in Velenje! The Macedonian champions will have a chance to fight for their third title in regional competition at SEHA Final 4 and to get, on the paper, easier rival on the score in direct encounters after 17 matches.
Home team, on the wings of fantastic goalkeeper Klemen Ferlin (16 saves) gave strong resistance to clear favorites from Skopje until the last minute of the match. Decisive was 4:0 series of Macedonians in the last four minutes, which finally stopped Slovenian team led by Borut Plaskan, who showed a great fighting spirit in match which didn’t mean a lot in terms of placement as RK Gorenje already lost all the chances to qualify for SEHA Final4.
“Rdeca dvorana” was on fire in 56th minute when Blaz Klec netted for 28:27 lead of home team, but strong defensive performance in the most decisive moments of the clash and two goals of Vuko Borozan made turnover on the “red-black” side. The 22-years old Montenegrian shooter netted six goals, two less than Timur Dibirov (8), while Arpad Sterbik had 12 saves in total at the end.
On the other side, Luka Mitrovic and Nejc Cehte shared title of “TOP scorer” with six goals each.
Telekom Veszprem won two matches in 24 hours against RK Metalurg 33:21 and HRK Izvidjac 36:31.
