Serbia’s Vukovic: “We were wasted”; Momir Ilic: “We entered history”

At the press conference after the defeat against Denmark, the Serbian side had no reason to be disappointed. The players and coach were very satisfied with the 2nd place and the Silver medal. Serbia’s coach Veselin Vukovic, players Marko Vujin and Momir Ilic, all agreed that this was a major step forward for Serbian handball, and that this medal will have huge impact on Serbian handball future.

– I have congratulate Denmark on the brilliant final game. Perhaps it would have been too much to beat the Danish two times after not having them beaten for so many years. After the game against Croatia the players were very psychologically and physically exhausted, and I believe that might have had its effect in the final game.  – said Serbia’s coach Veselin Vukovic.

Momir Ilic was satisfied with the achievement, despite the defeat:

– I would like to thank all the fans for the fantastic support. Congratulations to the Danish on the Gold Medal. Before the tournament we desired such a good result, and this is a great success for all of us. I’m proud of it as a team captain. We achieved a great success, and I’m proud of it as a Captain.

Marko Vujin mentioned that the previous two weeks have been huge success for Serbian handball:

– We made a huge step forward for our handball. Few people expected us to get so far. Great step forward for Serbian handball. This a good direction, and we’re proud of having won “visum” to the WC and the Olympic Games qualifications. We wasted ourself against Croatia, and the Danish were simply better. We should strive on achieving even better results in future.
