Veszprem part ways with Antonio Carlos Ortega!

Hungarian champions Veszprem sacked Spanish coach Antonio Carlos Ortega! The decision was taken after the first match at the VELUX EHF Champions League against Orlen Wisla Plock, which was ended 27:27 in Orlen Arena by the goal of home team in the last seconds of the clash, finds out Handball-Planet.com. Despite the existing contract until summer 2017, the VELUX EHF Champions League finalist from the last season, decided to break cooperation with the coach who repeated the biggest success in the club’s history in Cologne.

Antonio Carlos Ortega came to Veszprem in 2012. Since than, Veszprem won all domestic trophies with fourth place at the VELUX EHF Champions League FINAL4 in 2014 and the second in 2015. Hungarians won also regional SEHA GAZPROM League in season 2014/2015 with impressive winning run – 19/1.

Veszprem began season successfully by winning domestic Super Cup. Nagy, Ilic and Co. played at the IHF Super Globe Final in Doha ten days ago, where they were defeated against German Fuchse Berlin.

Veszprem are the first team at VELUX  EHF Champions League who sacked the coach in the new season.

An interim solution until appointment of the new coach will be Ortega’s assistant  – Xavi Sabate.
