Young Argentinias are the best in Pan America

Once again Argentina beat Brazil in a final of a Pan-American Handball Championship – this time at the Men’s Youth Championship played in Venezuela. The host of the upcoming IHF Men’s Youth World Championships defeated their old enemy in a high tensioned final 25:24 thanks to a last second goal scored by Santiago Baronet, and took another title. “It was a real tough fight which was on the edge all the 60 minutes. We felt like dead but we managed to win,” Baronet said after the medal ceremony.

Chile took the Bronze medal as they won the Bronze final clearly 28:19 against host Venezuela. All three medallists are directly qualified for the World Championship in August.
Beforehand Argentina had beaten Venezuela in the semi-finals 36:24, whereas Brazil prevailed against Chile (36:22). Uruguay (against Puerto Rico) and Colombia (against USA) won the placement matches. Diego Morandiera (Uruguay) became top scorer of this championship with 58 goals, ahead of Jorge Nazario (Puerto Rico/46) and Pablo Simonet (Argentina, 32).

Gold: Argentina, Silver: Brazil, Bronze: Chile, 4. Venezuela, 5. Uruguay, 6. Puerto Rico, 7. Colombia, 8. USA
