Vincent Gerard about 10 matches in 17 days: We must stop this circus!

The 26th IHF World Handball Championship 2019 is over with the triumph of one of the host nations – Denmark at the big final in Herning. The Danish team won 10 of 10 matches from the very beginning until the last clash against Norway in only 17 days. A lot of injuries followed the tough schedule and great energy consumption in small period of time. Players are mostly angry, but their willingness to fight for their countries aren’t in question.

Aron Palmarsson (Iceland), Nemanja Zelenovic (Serbia), Daniel Sarmiento or Dani Dujshebaev (Spain), Cyril Dumoulin and Cedric Sorhaindo (France), are just some of the names which had to finish tournament before the end…

  • In fact, what happened was that at the World Cup in France, Denmark and Germany were eliminated in the eighth-final, and TVs, which pay dearly, claimed more matches, said French goalie Vincent Gerrard for sport.fr and added:
  • As a result, the IHF has changed competition system to offer TV at least 8 matches to broadcast. Now, the players have to move together and put a stop to it. We are not meat, that’s enough.

France had to play 10 matches in four different cities Berlin, Cologne, Hamburg and Herning, with the long trips between.

” We must stop this circus and believe that players can play 10 matches in two weeks while moving the day of rest. It is a moment, we’re not meat. We must change that. TV is, of course important, but we must also think about the health of players – concluded Gerard, who expects that Union of French Players take some action in that direction.
