Gislason about Germany at EHF EURO 2026: “Right back is our big problem”

After the two friendlies against Iceland (42:31 and 29:31), Germany coach Alfred Gislason drew clear conclusions for the 2026 EURO. While there is strong competition in almost all backcourt positions, right back remains the weak spot.
“We have a lot of good players on most positions now – except on the right back,” Gislason said. “Basically, we only have Renars Uscins and Miro Semper there, and both have struggled with injuries.” Uscins is still rebuilding his confidence after his setback.
To create more options, Gislason is also using Miro Schluroff on the right side. “Our alternatives there are very limited. Compared to Denmark or Iceland, we are far away.” Against Iceland, however, Schluroff also hesitated to shoot from distance.
