Nebojša Simić to miss EHF EURO 2026 with Montenegro

Nebojša Simić will not be in goal for the Montenegrin national team at the 2026 European Championship next month. The MT Melsungen goalkeeper, who injured his knee ligaments in April this year, will not be fully ready for what the national team expects in January, when they will play in Oslo in a group with Slovenia, the Faroe Islands and Switzerland.

“I have dedicated myself fully to recovery, changed my diet and supplements, spent hours in therapy, and I never took more than a weekend off. I did everything that was up to me and I’m proud of that. I’m sorry for all handball fans who want to see me in action, above all the Melzungen fans and national team supporters, but I feel sorriest for myself, because I’m missing some very important matches for club and country that I was really looking forward to. It’s very hard to watch from the sidelines, but with injuries this serious there is no joking around, and I want to put all of this behind me in 2026 and come back even stronger. Thank you all for your understanding,” Simić concluded.

Montenegro have a problem at the goalkeeper position because their second option, Nikola Matović, is also recovering from the same injury.
