Aalborg Extend Contracts with Coaching Duo Dahl and Kronborg Until 2029

Head coach Simon Dahl and assistant coach Henrik Kronborg will continue to lead Aalborg Håndbold until the summer of 2029.

The 35-year-old Dahl joined Aalborg in the summer of 2023 as assistant coach before taking over as head coach in November 2024. Since then, Aalborg have played 84 competitive matches, winning 72, drawing three and losing nine — six of those defeats coming in the EHF Champions League.

During that period, the club have won one Danish championship, two Danish Cup titles and one Super Cup, while also reaching the EHF Champions League quarter-finals in both 2025 and 2026.

“Simon has unquestionably brought us the calmness and stability that have allowed us to maintain our position as the leading team in Danish club handball. Despite his young age, he has turned our team into a powerful unit and created a strong team spirit in a squad full of major profiles,” said Aalborg Håndbold team manager Martin Larsen.

“With the addition of Henrik Kronborg as a strong and experienced assistant last summer, we have built a very strong coaching duo. Their results speak for themselves, so there was no doubt that we wanted to continue working with both of them. We believe this setup is the right solution for our team,” Larsen added.

For Dahl, continuing at the helm of Aalborg remains a highly motivating challenge.

“Even though we have done well and, among other things, won the regular season this year with a record-high number of points, there is always a new match and a new challenge waiting around the corner. We are a club with big ambitions, and that motivates me a lot,” said Dahl.

“I am proud and happy that I was given the chance as head coach back in 2024, but even more proud that everyone — players, coaching team, staff and administration — has succeeded as well as we have. That is why I am delighted to sign a new agreement, especially because it will be together with Henrik Kronborg, with whom I have an excellent partnership,” he added.

Kronborg, 55, who has been assistant coach at the club since last summer, shares the same feeling.

“I have experienced a lot in my career, but I have never before worked in a club with such a professional setup, such big ambitions and such a strong squad. Together with Simon and the players, I am happy with the cooperation we have and the results we have achieved so far this season, even though we are constantly dreaming of reaching new and bigger goals together. I am therefore very much looking forward to continuing at the club,” said Kronborg.
