Team Al Zamalek from Egypt qualified as African representative after winning the continental club final against Etoile Shael from Tunisia 26:21 (15:11) and thus completed the Preliminary Round Group B of the IHF Super Globe in Doha, Qatar: The final was played in Yaounde, Cameroon. Al Zamalek qualified for the third straight time for the IHF Super Globe after 2007 (as Al-Ahly) and 2010, and will face Ciudad Real (Spain), host Al-Sadd from Qatar and the Southern Stars (Australia) in the Preliminary Round. The last team to be determined for the IHF Super Globe is the wild card team from Qatar, which plays in Group A, together with THW Kiel (Germany), Al-Sad (Lebanon) and Esporte Clube Pinheiros (Brazil).
Al Zamalek started brilliantly in the African final and took a clear 11:4 lead after only 13 minutes, before Etoile Sahel improved and reduced the gap to 9:13 and 11:15 at the break. As this four-goal advantage remained until the final stage of the match, Al Zamalek could celebrate this crucial victory. The IHF Super Globe will be played in Doha from 14 to 18 May. After the Preliminary Round, the Final, Bronze Final and Placement Matches will directly be carried out.
For the first time in their club’s history Esporte Clube Pinheiros qualified for the IHF Super Globe. The Brazilian team won the final of the Pan American Club Championship, carried out in Sao Bernardo do Campo (Brazil), against their country fellows from team Unopar clearly 33:22. By taking this trophy, Esporte Clube Pinheiros will represent Pan-America at the IHF Super Globe in Doha (Qatar) and will meet European Champions League winner THW Kiel (Germany), Asian representative AL-Sad (Lebanon) and a team from Qatar, which is currently not yet known, in the Preliminary Round.
