HANDBALL GLOBETROTTERS: Vujovic, Sigurdsson, Gerona, Ribera…


Veselin Vujovic will be the only coach to lead his 4th national team at IHF World Handball Championship 2025.
The 64-years old Montenegrian coach will try to make progress with Qatar. Previously, he coached Yugoslavia, Slovenia and Iran at World Chmapionships between 2005 and 2023.
The fourth national team lead also Dagur Sigurdsson, but Croatia will be his third at World Championship stage. Previosly, Icelander coached Austria (only at EHF EURO 2010), Germany and Japan.
Spanish national team coach Jordi Ribera previosly worked in Argentina and Brasil.
The third World Championship experience will have also Toni Gerona. Spaniard leads Japan. In 2019, he was coaching Tunisia, while in 2023, he won 11th place with Serbian national team.
From Gislason to Apelgren – “Coach” at World Championship 2025 is 52 years and 7 months old!
Alfred Gislason, before Germany, led Iceland. Robert Hedin has a huge experience of leading Norway before he moved to teach USA.
Juan Carlos Pastor won gold medal with Spain, while now he will have a chance to make a history with Egypt.
Also, his compatriot, Xavi Sabate, after Hungary, now working with Czech Republic on his second World Champioship.
Staffan Olsson leads Dutch team. He has Olympic final as Swedish coach in his CV.
Aron Kristjansson is also on his “second jersey”. Icelander led his native team, but for a while he is in charge of Bahrain national team.
