HUNGARY: Pick Szeged wins in Gyor!

In round 5 of the Hungarian League Pick Szeged traveled to newcomers Győr, where after Audi ETO’s CL victory, the local men’s team also plans to be a force to reckon with. Besides the two top Hungarian teams (Szeged, Veszprém) Győr also hosts some new Spanish players and a trainer. The squad also consists of a former national team member and some talented youngsters. Former Pick player Bence Simon who now plays for Győr, and Pick’s Montenegrin international Lasica didn’t take part in the match due to injury.

The match started better for the home team as they gained a two-goal lead after six minutes (4-2).  Szeged quickly reorganized their game, goals by Balogh and Mindegia equalized the score, but then Győr managed to keep their lead until the 20th minute. Goals came from both sides, but sleepy Szeged could only take over at the very end of the first half (10-11).

In the second half however Szeged quickly let Győr know that they intended to leave with two points. Giant goals by Ancsin and much better defense resulted in a constantly growing lead. In the last fifteen minutes only the goal difference was in question. Thanks to their confident lead Pick decided to try several different tactical variations including one by young right wing Gidai and Bosnian pivot Vranjes who scored in the final moments.

On Wednesday a much harder task awaits Pick Szeged on home ground when the meet Balatonfüred.
