IHF presents 1st Beach Handball Tour

IHF proudly presents the 1st IHF Beach Handball Week from 5 to 11 October.  

The week will feature one live-streamed session per day, with roughly one hour per session and 15 minutes for a question-and-answer portion led by moderator Courtney Gahan. Aside from the opening lecture on Monday, 5 October, (starting at 13:00 CEST), all lectures will begin at 14:00 CEST. 

The 1st IHF Beach Handball Week will be streamed live on Zoom, with lecture links sent to registered participants. To join the programme, those interested can register here. The lectures will also be streamed on the IHF Facebook page, however, some features, such as the question function as well as the translation languages (French, Spanish, Russian and Arabic), are available only on Zoom.

Monday, 5 October, 13:00 CEST 
Coaching – Attack and defence strategies 
Presented by Pedro Bago (Spain men’s beach handball team coach; former Spain representative and youth age category coach) and Mladen Paradzik (Croatia men’s beach handball team coach; former Croatia representative and youth age category coach)
Including welcome from IHF President Dr Hassan Moustafa

This lecture looks at the different ways to organise attack, how to attack depending on the specialist position, current defensive trends, and defensive options: active and reactive systems. 

Tuesday, 6 October, 14:00 CEST
Officiating – Spectacular goals 
Martin Gomér and Johan Gomér (IHF beach handball referees)

This lecture will focus on spectacular goals in beach handball from a refereeing point of view including rules and execution.

Wednesday, 7 October, 14:00 CEST
Coaching – How to improve the spin shot and shoot-out strategies in beach handball
Tamas Neukum (Hungarian Handball Federation beach handball sports manager; former Hungary and Italy women’s beach handball team coach) and Maria Karantoni (Greece women’s beach handball team coach)

This lecture will look at various situations, such as practical sessions for teaching spin shots, how to improve spin shots day to day, team preparation for shoot-outs, and individual tactical movements in shoot-outs. Neukam will focus on spin shots, while Karantoni leads the discussion on shoot-outs. 

Thursday, 8 October, 14:00 CEST 
Officiating – Progressive punishments and 6-metre throws
Joanna Brehmer (IHF beach handball technical delegate) and Laura Buchón-Pera (IHF beach handball referee)

This lecture will focus on clear scoring changes, progressive punishment and free throw and the 6-metre throw.

Friday, 9 October, 14:00 CEST
Coaching – Building a winning youth women’s team and the specialist
Marcio Magliano (Brazil women’s beach handball team coach) and Leticia Brunati (Argentina women’s youth beach handball team coach) 

This lecture will focus on a variety of topics, including how to create a winning plan, how to teach young players, and different types of specialists and how their decisions impact the game. Brunati will focus on building a winning team using her own examples, while Magliano will concentrate on the specialist position. 

Saturday, 10 October, 14:00 CEST
Organisation – Argentina Beach Handball Circuit, PGNiG Summer Superliga and Beach Handball Global Tour
Sasa Kuburovic, Burak Tezcan (Beach Handball Global Tour), Marek Goralczyk (PGNiG Summer Superliga, Polish Handball Federation director of beach handball) and Juan De Arma (Argentina Beach Handball Manager)

This lecture will focus on the organisation of beach handball events.

Sunday, 11 October, 14:00 CEST
Officiating – Goalkeeper behaviour and special beach handball situations
Ioannis Meimaridis and Luiz Felipe Caldas (IHF beach handball lecturers)

This lecture will cover goalkeeper behaviour inside and outside the goal area, goalkeeper behaviour during a shoot-out, as well as injury simulation after shooting, the referee throw and playing the ball back to the own goal area.
