MT Melsungen sacked Gudmundur Gudmundsson.
After three matches in the new season of Bundesliga, one draw and two defeats, club decided for a change.
Until further notice, assistant trainer Arjan Haenen will lead the practice units.
“Shortly after Gudmi came to us, normal training was not possible for a long time due to the outbreak of the pandemic. Several phases of quarantine contributed to the rest. And that especially in a phase in which a new coach has to warm up with his team. In short, the conditions for him could hardly have been less favorable. However, regardless of the individual results, development must take place above all else. But there are no serious signs of this in the first few weeks of the new season, including the pre-season. That is why we decided in a mutual consultation to release Gudmundur Gudmundsson from his duties, ”explains Barbara Braun-Lüdicke, Chairman of the Supervisory Board.
MT board member Axel Geerken: “We would like to thank Gudmundur Gudmundsson for his great personal commitment – even if in this case the team and coach did not ultimately find each other as hoped. The search for a successor is now in full swing and there are a few candidates. However, names already traded in the media are not applicable. We will not participate in any further public speculation, but will only contact you again when the result is certain. Until then, Arjan Haenen will lead the training ”.
