Niclas Kirkeløkke to join Fredericia HK in summer 2027
Niclas Kirkeløkke is moving to Fredericia HK on a three-year contract valid from the summer of 2027.
The national team player thus returns home to the Danish league after eight seasons at a high international level in the Bundesliga – five years in Rhein-Neckar Löwen and three years in SG Flensburg-Handewitt since 2019.
Niclas Kirkeløkke has signed a three-year contract that runs from the summer of 2027 to the summer of 2030.
The arrival of the double world champion marks an important step in Fredericia Handball Club’s continued commitment to the top of Danish handball.
– It is a good day for handball in Fredericia and for Fredericia Handball Club that from the summer of 2027 we can welcome Niclas Kirkeløkke to FHK. Niclas will give our squad a huge boost. With his experience and performances from the Bundesliga and the Danish national team, we get a player who can contribute at the highest level at both ends of the field, says director of Fredericia Handball Club, Thomas Renneberg-Larsen, in a press release.
– We are getting a player who comes with enormous experience and a strong winning instinct. We have lacked the experience and skills that Niclas possesses, and he will be vital for the club’s hunt for medals. We are sure that he will be of great importance all the way around, continues Thomas Renneberg-Larsen.
Niclas Kirkeløkke says that the opportunity to return home to Denmark and become part of Fredericia Handball Club felt obvious.
– I have a desire to come back to Denmark after many years abroad. After several good conversations with the club, it quickly became clear to me that the project here is incredibly exciting, and that I can see myself in it. I have heard very positive things about the environment, and the atmosphere in the hall seems fantastic, says Niclas Kirkeløkke.
About the prospect of having Middelfart Sparekasse Arena as his home ground, he says:
– I have played a single match as a senior in the arena, when I was part of GOG at the time, and we met FHK in a match in the 1st division. It is great that FHK has a real handball hall as its home field. You don’t experience that in many places anymore. I am looking forward to running on the field here in Middelfart Sparekasse Arena and feeling the support.
