“NOT TOO BAD”: Jacobsen’s Era of Excellence

Denmark Sets Record with 30 Matches Unbeaten at World Handball Championships
Denmark has achieved an extraordinary milestone by remaining unbeaten in 30 consecutive matches at the World Handball Championships since January 22, 2017. Their last defeat in the tournament occurred during the Round of 16 phase in France, where they were bested by Hungary.
Two months later, in March 2017, Nikolaj Jacobsen took over as head coach, succeeding Gudmundur Gudmundsson, the Olympic champion who led Denmark to gold at the Rio 2016 Games.
Since Jacobsen’s appointment, Denmark has played 75 matches across major tournaments, including the World Championships, European Championships, and Olympic Games. During this period, the team has celebrated 62 victories, drawn three matches, and suffered 10 defeats, achieving an impressive win rate of 82.66%.

Losing against France on 4 of 6 events which are not (of course) World Championships #handball #handbold #handball2025

The three-time World Champions and Olympic gold medalists from Paris 2024 have faced their toughest competition from France, who defeated them four times across six non-World Championship events. Sweden handed Denmark two losses, while Slovenia, Iceland, the Czech Republic, and Spain each managed a single victory against the team.
These records underscore Denmark’s remarkable consistency and dominance in international handball—a benchmark that will be challenging to surpass.
Denmark’s next match is against Italy, where they aim to secure maximum points to carry into the Main Round.
