Paulo Pereira and Celje PL together until 2026

Paulo Pereira is the new coach of RK Celje Pivovarna Lasko.
The third team of Slovenian championship has one of the worst season in the last three decades, without trophies on the domestic stage, but also win at EHF Champions League.
With many departures from the club, famous for it’s unique handball school which produces a lot of talented players, ambitions are changing, but still there is some plan with the coaching name linked with all the successes of Portuguese handball.
Pereira and RK Celje Pivovarna Lasko agreed about two-years deal. Portuguese NT coach, who played with his team at Olympic Games 2021 in Tokyo, will have dual function. His best achievement on club’s stage is winning EHF Challenge Cup with CSM Bucharest. The same competition in which will compete with Slovenian squad:
“Working in Celje is a source of pride for every coach, and I am no exception. I know that I will work in a handball country, with intelligent and attentive people, in a historically important club in Europe, which has the ability to produce handball players of exceptional quality. I also know that the management of the club wants to return the club to where it was in the past. It will be a long journey that will require following the guidelines and strategy already established, which I will be a part of with great pride and a sense of responsibility. This will be a young team with a lot of ambition and we will have to help them grow. We count on everyone without exception, especially the fans, to achieve our goals. See you soon!.”
